Children's Nature Institute

Head outside and join other families in a nature walk! What a wonderful way to take advantage of the wonderful weather we have here in Southern California.

The Children’s Nature Institute has hikes specifically designed for Children under 8 years old. They offer hikes and walks at over 40 different sites in the Los Angeles area. Each walk is approximately 2 hours long so bring water, a snack and sunscreen with you. Some walks are stroller accessible. Your guide will call you a few days before the hike to let you know where to park, what special items to bring, and to confirm your attendance. They will also give you directions.

You and your children will learn about touch and smell many different plants, observe animals and their behaviors within their natural habitats. Your guide may lead a craft, songs and other activities on the way. We watered bushes with squirt bottles on our walk and made our own binoculars! There is always something for children to do on the trails to keep their attention.

The organization also sponsors a kid’s festival annually every summer. Check out the web site or call for details regarding events and nature walks. They can also send you a free schedule in the mail. They do require that you register for their hikes.
